WCAG Contrast Checker
Check whether text and background colors meet WCAG AA and AAA contrast ratios. Enter any two colors and get the ratio instantly.
What this page covers
This page explains the workflow and links directly to the relevant section of the main Chromaforge tool.
- Pick any two colors and get the exact contrast ratio before shipping.
- See AA and AAA pass/fail badges for text and large-text thresholds simultaneously.
- Generate a full palette from the base color and check all combinations at once.
- Everything runs locally in the browser — no server, no account.
What is the WCAG AA standard?
WCAG 2.1 Level AA requires a contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. It is the practical minimum for most web interfaces and is required by many accessibility laws worldwide.
What is the difference between AA and AAA?
AAA requires 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for large text. It is the highest WCAG conformance level and is not required for all content, but is recommended for extended prose and critical information.
Is APCA supported?
Not currently. Chromaforge uses the WCAG 2.x relative luminance model. APCA is a newer algorithm proposed for WCAG 3, but it is not yet a ratified standard and browser support is not yet guaranteed.
